Cordless grinders have been fast for a while. What they have not been is safe in the way a corded grinder with a dead-man switch is safe. The GWS 18V-10 is Bosch’s answer to that, and the safety package is the reason to consider it over cheaper tools in the class.
KickBack Control is the headline. Bosch describes an onboard sensor that watches for the rotational spike preceding a bind and cuts the motor. A binding disc can twist a grinder out of your hands in under 100 milliseconds, which is faster than any human reaction, so electronic detection is the only mechanism that intervenes in time.
The brake matters just as much and gets talked about less. Bosch fits a wheel brake but does not publish a stop time, and across the category stop times range from under two seconds to over four. It is the difference between setting a grinder down and setting it down safely, so it is worth asking the seller for the figure.
Neither Bosch nor Makita publishes a cuts-per-charge figure for these grinders, and the number swings hugely with stock thickness and whether you are cutting or grinding. On published specification the two are close on output, which is why the safety package rather than speed is what separates them.
