A third the price of a name-brand kit and about two-thirds of the performance. For occasional use that maths works.
Why you can trust us. Tools Soko earns a commission when you buy through links on this page. It never changes what we recommend, and it never changes the price you pay.
The Verdict
Good enough for flat-pack, shelving and light fixing. Not good enough for daily trade use, and the included bits should be replaced before first use.
Tools Soko score: 7.4 / 10
Pros and Cons
What we liked
- Complete kit with case for under a third of trade pricing
- Metal chuck rather than the plastic we expected
- Two batteries in the box
- Genuinely light at 1.2 kg
What we didn’t
- Included bits are soft and round off quickly
- No brushless motor, so heat builds under load
- Battery platform is a dead end — no other tools use it
The Full Review
We test budget kits because most people buying a first drill are not choosing between Milwaukee and DeWalt — they are choosing between this and nothing. On that basis the Pico 4 does well.
The drill itself is competent. 45 Nm is enough for 6 mm masonry anchors and 65 mm screws into softwood, and the two-speed gearbox is a real one rather than a marketing claim. Chuck runout measured 0.11 mm, which is better than two considerably more expensive drills we have tested.
The bits are the problem. The supplied driver bits are soft enough that we rounded a PZ2 on the eleventh screw. Budget for a decent bit set and factor that into the price comparison.
The strategic issue is the battery. This is a proprietary platform with no other tools on it, so when the packs die in three years the whole kit is disposable. That is the real cost of the low entry price.
