Black+Decker CS1500 Review: Corded Simplicity for the Compound

Not a felling saw and not pretending to be. For firewood and storm cleanup within reach of a socket, it is hard to argue with the price.

Why you can trust us. Tools Soko earns a commission when you buy through links on this page. It never changes what we recommend, and it never changes the price you pay.

The Verdict

A genuinely useful homeowner saw with one real limitation: the cord. Accept that and it will cut a season of firewood without complaint.

Tools Soko score: 7.9 / 10

Pros and Cons

What we liked

  • Tool-free chain tensioning that actually holds
  • Automatic oiler with a window you can read
  • No fuel mixing, no starting drama
  • Lightest saw here at 4.7 kg

What we didn’t

  • Cord management is a constant nuisance
  • Bogs down in hardwood over 250 mm
  • Plastic body flexes under a pinched bar

The Full Review

Corded chainsaws occupy a narrow band of usefulness, and the CS1500 sits right in the middle of it. Within 30 m of a socket, cutting softwood or seasoned hardwood under 250 mm, it is quick, quiet and requires nothing of you beyond plugging it in.

Chain tensioning is the standout. The tool-free wheel holds tension through a full tank of oil, which is more than we can say for two petrol saws at four times the price.

The limits arrive fast in green hardwood. Cutting 280 mm eucalyptus, the motor dropped audibly and we had to ease off to avoid stalling. It will get through, but it is working harder than it wants to.

Build quality is where the price shows. The body is plastic and flexes noticeably if the bar pinches. Treat it accordingly and it will last; treat it like a professional saw and it will not.
